The stop Uhlenhorster Fährhaus recalls a significant chapter in Hamburg's Alster shipping history. In earlier times, a ferryman operated a rowboat connection between Uhlenhorst and the opposite Harvestehude side of the Outer Alster. With the advent of the first Alster steamers, the pier of the then-owner of the ferry house became an important landing point. Over the years, Uhlenhorster Fährhaus, with its large pier, the boathouse of the rowing club Germania, and the associated docking facilities, developed into a small maritime center. The impressive ensemble was a popular motif for postcards. However, in World War II, the ferry house was destroyed and not rebuilt.
The current landing point "Uhlenhorster Fährhaus" is located slightly further south, near the street Schöne Aussicht at the junction of Karlstraße. The docking facility was renewed in 1964 and most recently in 2000. With a width of four meters, a length of around 30 meters, and a pier head of 42 meters, it offers a great starting point for excursions to all parts of Hamburg.
